Redefining the GRIND

It takes a disciplined being to slow down and redefine the grind.

The grind is a concept, stemming from ideologies that support the rhetoric of “never being enough” and pushing productivity until the seams burst.

When I say “Stay Grounded, Stay Grinding”, my tagline for the brand since 2020 - I mean : “stay grounded”, present, and living in the moment while encouraging my peeps to “stay grinding” in way that lights YOUR soul on fire.

What lights your soul on fire?

If this answer is wavering at best or completely foreign, take a moment to explore some tips below :

  1. Explore your screen time - if we are constantly consuming content, others opinions and ideas, our connection to our own voice becomes quiet if not totally unrecognizable.

  2. Carve out time for stillness - this could be 5 minutes of noticing your breath, meditation, and/or prayer.

  3. Get out in nature - we as a society are striped of our connection to nature in every way. We live in temperature regulated boxes surrounded by screens, artificial lighting, and blinds that block natural light. Take time every day to be outside. Maybe you can’t access a hike everyday, but you can indeed step outside (no matter the weather) and become a witness. Of course I also encourage hikes, ones without earbuds or your phone!

  4. Carve out time for creative endeavors with no expectations - in the age of productivity, every waking moment is something to be monetized or commodified. Our creativity is dampened if not extinguished with this mentality. Start to add in weekly blocks of time where you can truly listen and express yourself through a creative outlet.

  5. Nourish your body with real food and sit down to just enjoy it - I was having a conversation on the mountain yesterday with one of my fellow snowboard instructors. At the age of 18, soon to graduate she is wise beyond her years. She is planning a year of travels abroad and she mentioned that one of her friends shared the easiest way to identify an American in another country is their insistent nature to walk while eating and drinking. And to add on, typically “fast food” or “convinece food” types which offer little to no actual nourishment.

  6. MOVE YOUR BODY IN INTUITIVE WAYS - this is another call to get the FUCK off of social media please. I truly do not care what challenge or fitness hype the next influencer is spurring off to the masses. What movement practices bring you joy? Think back to when you were a kiddo, what did you enjoy doing? If you aren’t sure, link up with a studio of movement modality space of your choice and try something new! or go run in the woods with your hair down!

I hope these tips bring up an internal dialogue that you can continue to work with and process. This is simply a brain dump of the quietude and engagement I have been surfing the past few weeks off social media. It’s wild how space away from that fake world can help to uncover your voice again.

Much love y’all

As always,
